HISTORY AND VISION
In 1999, the Van Wagnen's and the Richardson's toured the newly developing Brigadoon Subdivision. Being favorably impressed with the natural beauty of the sites and the planned development of the first phases, Gary Van Wagnen and Tere Richardson purchased two lots and built a vacation home in Phase I of Brigadoon Highlands. During the same year, Tom and Judy Richardson purchased two lots in Phase I & II of Brigadoon Highlands. In 2003, the Richardson's purchased three additional lots in Phase I & II of Brigadoon Highlands with plans to build a permanent residence for themselves.
The Richardson's are former long-time residents of Limestone County, as were many generations of their families, and are excited to return to the area. As a newly married couple in 1956, Tom and Judy farmed cotton on the 500 acres that now makes up the Brigadoon Development. One of their favorite spots on the farm was a point overlooking the Tennessee River, referred to at that time as Egypt Bluff.
With a respectful nod to the past, Egypt Bluff Properties, LLC seemed to be a fitting name for the new development corporation that intends to develop the remainder of Brigadoon. In a manner that will complement the old south charm of the surrounding rural landscape and serene lake front, Brigadoon will provide its residents serene, secure, scenic home sites and amenities fitting of such a beautiful Tennessee Valley location.
Egypt Bluff Properties, LLC is excited to leverage off the strengths of the current development and intends to continue the Scottish theme and restrictive covenants originally established by the Brigadoon Homeowner Association as it develops the remainder of the Brigadoon community. The community provides residents:
- Secure, scenic home sites and amenities fitting of such a beautiful Tennessee Valley location
- Gated Community
- Excellent River access to both the Tennessee and Elk Rivers
- Proximity to the Swan Creek Waterfowl Management Area and the Wheeler national Wildlife Refuge
- Proximity to Bay Point Marina (full service marina)
- Proximity to state parks and area golf courses
- Proximity to Athens University and Calhoun Community Colleges
- Old south charm of the surrounding rural landscape and serene lake
- Community spirit of the current residents
We recognized that the concept needs to move beyond the existing development approach and identify new ways to create value and incentive for future homeowners that may not have direct water frontage. The long-term success of Brigadoon will be it's ability to continue to re-invent itself to be more appealing to its target market. To do this, we are planning amenities that Brigadoon may need to offer in the future to be attractive to its market including:
- Nature trails
- Tennis courts
- Man-made lake(s)
- Club house
- Off property, but accessible storage boat/RV
- Community pier
- Commons areas and/or gathering place(s) or a members only beach
- Convenience store and/or services
- Small office suites
- The potential of basing a private independent elementary school in the area.
